Injured on I-75 through downtown Macon, at a Pio Nono Avenue intersection, or inside a Bibb County business? Georgia trims your recovery by your share of the blame and erases it at 50%, so the adjuster’s first call is really a fault interview. Free consultation, no fee unless we win.

Two of Georgia’s busiest highways cross in Macon. I-75 brings Atlanta and Florida traffic through the center of the city on a stretch that narrows to four lanes, I-16 begins at exit 0 just northwest of downtown and carries freight east to Savannah’s port, and I-475 swings around the west side so through traffic can avoid both. Closer to the ground, the SR 247/Pio Nono Avenue corridor runs past Eisenhower Parkway, Anthony Road, and Mercer University Drive, where a GDOT corridor study counted 630 crashes between 2014 and 2018 and found that the Pio Nono-Eisenhower intersection averaged 48.6 crashes a year, more than ten times a comparable intersection. Those roads, plus the stores, apartments, and worksites of a consolidated city-county of roughly 157,000 people, produce the injuries this page is about.
Joshua E. Palmer, Attorney at Law brings those claims under Georgia law, which judges every one of them by the same yardstick: your damages drop by your percentage of fault and vanish at 50%. This hub explains what a Macon personal injury lawyer does, which Bibb County court hears the case, who investigates an injury after the Macon-Bibb merger, and how a claim is valued and paid. It then sends you to the Macon page for your kind of case: car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian accidents, and wrongful death. The statewide rules live on our Georgia areas we serve page and our personal injury practice page.
| County | Bibb County |
|---|---|
| Where a lawsuit is filed | Bibb County Superior Court (Macon Judicial Circuit), Bibb County Courthouse, 601 Mulberry Street, Suite 216, Macon, GA 31201, or the State Court of Bibb County, J. Taylor Phillips Courthouse, 601 Mulberry Street, Room 500. Both hear injury cases; civil e-filing is mandatory in most cases. |
| Crash report | Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, which absorbed the Macon Police Department in the 2014 consolidation and patrols Macon-Bibb in five districts. Copies from BSO Central Records at the Downtown Annex, 111 Third Street, Suite 1A, by email, or through the county’s open-records portal; Georgia State Patrol reports (common on I-75, I-16, and I-475) come from the local post or the Department of Public Safety; GDOT’s BuyCrash sells reports statewide. |
| Emergency and trauma care | Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center, 777 Hemlock Street, a Level I trauma center designated by the state since 1998 and verified by the American College of Surgeons; Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital; Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North. |
| Roads where crashes concentrate | I-75 through downtown, the I-16/I-75 interchange, the 15.8-mile I-475 bypass, US 23/41/80/129, SR 247 (Pio Nono Avenue), Eisenhower Parkway, Mercer University Drive, Anthony Road, and SR 540 (Fall Line Freeway). |
| Pio Nono Avenue corridor | A GDOT corridor study of SR 247/Pio Nono Avenue from Eisenhower Parkway to Mercer University Drive, using 2014-2018 crash data, counted 630 crashes (207 with injuries), including 243 at Eisenhower Parkway, 163 at Mercer University Drive, and 86 at Anthony Road, plus six pedestrian crashes. Pio Nono at Eisenhower averaged 48.6 crashes a year, more than ten times comparable intersections. |

Any injury that someone else’s carelessness caused and an insurance policy should pay for. In Macon that is overwhelmingly traffic: the rear-end chain reactions where I-75 squeezes to four lanes downtown, the merges and lane shifts in the I-16/I-75 interchange project, the left-turn and signal crashes on Pio Nono Avenue, and the tractor-trailers that use Macon as the hinge between Atlanta, Florida, and the port at Savannah. Motorcyclists, pedestrians, and families who lost someone bring their own kinds of claims, and each has a dedicated Macon page.
The same rules reach a fall on a wet floor at a Macon store, a dog allowed to roam, or a job-site injury caused by a company other than your employer.
Georgia divides fault by percentage under O.C.G.A. § 51-12-33, a system called modified comparative negligence. Whoever decides the case, a Bibb County jury or an adjuster guessing what that jury would do, assigns a share of responsibility to everyone involved, including people who were never sued. Your compensation is reduced by your share. A Macon driver found 30% responsible for a crash with $100,000 in losses collects $70,000. The same driver found 50% responsible collects nothing, because Georgia bars recovery entirely once the injured person’s share reaches half.
That cutoff is why the first weeks of a Macon claim are a contest over percentages rather than over whether you were hurt. On Pio Nono the adjuster asks whether you entered the intersection on a stale yellow. In the I-16/I-75 work zone the question is your speed through the barrels. In a store, the owner says the spill was obvious and you should have seen it. Each concession is a percentage point, and most of them are collected in a recorded statement taken before you have a lawyer.
Bibb County has two trial courts with jurisdiction over injury claims of any size, and both sit at 601 Mulberry Street in downtown Macon. Bibb County Superior Court, the heart of the Macon Judicial Circuit that also covers Crawford and Peach counties, is in the Bibb County Courthouse, Suite 216. The State Court of Bibb County sits in the J. Taylor Phillips Courthouse, Room 500, and requires electronic filing in most civil cases. Venue is normally the county where the defendant lives or where the injury happened, so a Macon injury is usually a Bibb County case even when the defendant is an out-of-state company.
Since Macon and Bibb County merged into a single government on January 1, 2014, the Macon Police Department has been part of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, which patrols the whole consolidated county in five districts. That makes a BSO deputy the author of most Macon crash reports, with the Georgia State Patrol writing many of the reports on I-75, I-16, and I-475. Georgia law, O.C.G.A. § 40-6-273, requires the driver to report any crash with an injury, a death, or $500 or more in damage, so if no officer came, report it now. An injury inside a business has no police report; the store’s own incident report and its camera footage take that role, and both have to be requested quickly.
Two years from the date of injury under O.C.G.A. § 9-3-33, and two years from the date of death for a wrongful death claim. File late and the claim is gone regardless of how clear the fault was. The deadline shrinks dramatically when a government is the defendant. An injury caused by a Macon-Bibb County vehicle or property requires a written ante litem notice, and because Macon-Bibb is a consolidated city-county we treat the six-month municipal deadline in O.C.G.A. § 36-33-5 as the one that controls, rather than the twelve-month county period in O.C.G.A. § 36-11-1. A state vehicle, including GDOT equipment in the interchange project, triggers the twelve-month notice in O.C.G.A. § 50-21-26.
The practical deadline is shorter still: camera footage from a Pio Nono gas station is overwritten within days, a repaired car loses its event data, and witnesses to an I-75 crash are often from out of state and gone by the time anyone looks.
The claim is worth what the injury has cost and will keep costing: the Navicent trauma bill and every follow-up visit, future care, wages lost and earning capacity reduced, and the non-economic losses of pain, scarring, and the parts of life the injury took away. Punitive damages are reserved for egregious conduct and are generally capped at $250,000 under O.C.G.A. § 51-12-5.1, with no cap when the defendant was impaired by alcohol or drugs, which matters in Macon DUI crashes. Our settlement guide walks through the method.
Who pays depends on the case. In a crash, the at-fault driver’s liability policy comes first, and Georgia requires only $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 in property damage under O.C.G.A. § 33-7-11. Behind it sit any employer or rideshare policy, the larger commercial policies behind a truck, and your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, which stacks on top of the driver’s limits when it was written as “added-on” coverage. In a fall or a dog bite, the property owner’s liability policy pays. Finding every policy is a large part of what the firm does, because the number on the declarations page often decides what a Macon claim can actually recover.
Because a Georgia injury claim is decided by evidence and by a fault percentage, and the firm is organized around winning both. Attorney Palmer concentrates in personal injury law, earned his law degree at North Carolina Central University School of Law, and was named to the 2026 Super Lawyers Rising Stars list. He personally handles the adjuster, the medical liens, and the negotiation, sends preservation demands in the first days, and prepares every Macon case for the courtroom at 601 Mulberry Street, which is how the insurer learns to price it.
The firm’s only office is in Bonaire, in Houston County, a short drive south on I-75, and Macon clients are represented by phone, video, and in person by appointment, including visits to Navicent, Piedmont Macon, or your home when travel is hard.
